The Kick Inside

Cat Lady! Dried up spinster! Barren ghost! Frigid witch!

Kerensa Diball has decided she’s not having children.
It’s not that she can’t, it’s not that she doesn’t have someone loving to make them with, it’s not that she hates children. (She’s quite caring, actually.) So, whenever she expresses this decision to remain childfree, she gets curious and mixed reactions.

Poignant and celebratory, The Kick Inside is an attempt to understand why being childfree is fundamentally challenging to us all, Kerensa included.

Kerensa considers her mother’s desire for grandchildren, cracks open the canon of capitalism, mourns her lack of female role models - and embarks on a quest to become a a wild and free childless goddess.

Revel in the messiness of buggering off all that good and bad advice and making your own glorious path. Expect absurd humour, psychedelic trips, a breeding aphid and a bit of bad dancing in an attempt to avoid those quiet moments where fear and loneliness creep in.
